Abbey Walker

Hey, I’m Abbey! I’m the newest member of the Chatterbots team, but it already feels like I’ve been here forever!

I’ve always known I wanted to work with kids, and I fell into Speech Pathology because I believe every child deserves to find their voice, be heard and feel included in a way that works best for them.  I place high value on working alongside families during their child’s therapy journey, to make sure goals, sessions and outcomes are practical, engaging, and meaningful in everyday life.

I bring lots of energy and creativity into my sessions because kids learn best when therapy is fun, engaging, and tailored to their unique needs. No two children are the same, so I keep therapy flexible and meaningful, and always provide a safe, comfortable learning space during my sessions. I’m a strong believer that when learning feels natural and enjoyable, progress comes more easily!

While attaining my Speech Pathology degree at Australian Catholic University, I worked as a Junior Behavioural Therapist, a Disability Support Worker and as an Allied Health Assistant (AHA), gaining invaluable experience with children and families with different needs and backgrounds. These roles helped to give me a well-rounded understanding of what life can be like beyond the therapy room, helping me set realistic, practical goals for families.

I’m a Certified Practicing Member of Speech Pathology Australia and have additional training in the Sounds-Write Literacy Program. I have a special interest in speech sound disorders, literacy, AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), and social communication, with a strong focus on neurodiversity-affirming practices.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me at the beach, trying out new restaurants with my friends, or deep in a (highly competitive) game of Monopoly Deal with friends and family (Look out Harriet & Steph!).
