Jessamine Wessen

Hey, I'm Jess! I’m a Speech Pathologist and I find it so special coming to a job every day where I can work with children to develop their communication skills and grow their confidence.

I come from a big family with lots of younger siblings, and have seen firsthand how speech therapy can provide children with not only the tools, but the assurance they need to progress their communication skills. I integrate targeting functional goals and evidence-based techniques with engaging activities in a creative way, so that every session is super fun!

Based on my experiences, I am particularly passionate about neurodiversity-affirming practice. I strongly believe in creating a safe and sensory-friendly space where children can develop their skills whilst having their communication differences acknowledged and respected.

I completed my Bachelor of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, and my Master of Speech and Language Pathology at Macquarie University. I come from a musical background, and taught performing arts to children, as well as working as an Allied Health Assistant at Chatterbots throughout my studies. Across these experiences and my time as a Speech Pathologist, I have gained invaluable and unique perspectives about thinking outside the box to achieve incidental learning through play.

I am a Certified Practicing member of Speech Pathology Australia, and have been trained in Sounds Write. I am especially interested in working with children to develop their speech sounds, early language skills, and social communication.

Outside of the clinic, I am always doing something musical, and I love spending time in the sunshine, and with friends and family.
