Katie Gurman
Hey, I’m Katie! I’m lucky to have found my passion in speech pathology, and every day I get to work with kids, to help them to reach their full potential when it comes to communicating.
My love of working with kids and my interest in linguistics is what led me to speech pathology. Before becoming a speech pathologist and during my studies, I worked in after-school care for 8 years, where I learned the value of keeping kids engaged through play. Now, I bring that same energy to my sessions, making them as fun and engaging as possible. I also appreciate that every child is different, so I stay flexible in my approach to make sure each session works for that child and their family. I believe parents know their kids best, which is why I always focus on setting goals together with families.
I completed my Bachelor of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences at Macquarie University and went on to complete my Master of Speech Pathology at the University of Technology Sydney. I am a Certified Practicing member of Speech Pathology Australia and have been trained in both the Lidcombe and Oakville Stuttering Programs. I have also completed further training in both the Sound-Write Literacy Program and the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Approach to feeding.
While I am passionate about all areas of speech pathology I have a special interest in speech sound disorders, literacy and paediatric feeding.
In my free time I love to relax at the beach and spend as much time as I can with my friends and family!
